NUSTRAL 400mg is used for the treatment of liver disease associated with reduced bile formation (intrahepatic cholestasis). It protects the liver cells from toxins and helps the liver to perform its normal functions.

Ademetionine is a form of the amino acid methionine. It also is called S-adenosyl methionine or SAMe. Typically, a human body makes all the ademetionine it needs for good health. However, low levels of methionine, folate, or vitamin B-12 can cause a drop in ademetionine levels. Since this ademetionine does not exist in foods, a synthetic version is sometimes used to normalize its levels in the body.

Each Enteric Coated tablet contains :

  • Ademetionine 1,4-butane disulfonate (SD4)
  • Equivalent to Ademetionine Ion 400mg

A full dose of ademetionine is usually 400 mg, taken three or four times daily depending on the conditions for which it is used.

Pregnant or breast-feeding women should not take ademetionine. Since ademetionine affects the central nervous system, it may interfere with surgery therefore its use should be discontinued at least two weeks prior to surgery. Ademetionine should not be taken with herbs and supplements that increase serotonin levels. Ademetionine should not be taken with diabetes medications because they may increase the effects of these drugs which can increase the risk of low blood sugar, or hypoglycaemia.
